We call it “conservative” because its aim is to keep one’s own teeth after they’ve decayed or broken, by applying fillings and reinforcements for the teeth that need it most.
To do this, we use cutting edge, high quality composite resins (aptly named composites) that offer a combination of better resilience and minimal long-term problems. A bad quality composite in, for example, a filling for a cavity, can shrink mid-treatment due to the light exposure, which will cause a maladaptation of the filling in the tooth, and subsequently a filtration that can easily be seen by the noticeable staining the filling’s edges develop. This can be irritating for you when eating cold or sweet food, and eventually cause the development of another cavity.
Therefore, it’s of the utmost importance that all materials used in these procedures are of the highest quality only, which has its price. A simple filling can take 20 minutes to do and cost between 70 and 80€. A reconstruction, which is a filling that also requires several supports to ensure retention, will take about 45 minutes, and cost between 110 and 135€.
Among the materials we use, we find zircon posts, which act as girders inside the tooth, and are a discreet white color instead of the old metallic posts.
Taking into account the price of a filling, and how long it can last (about 5 years for large reconstructions, and more than 10 for smaller fillings), it becomes clear that it’s quite a worthwhile investment, being a single upfront procedure the benefit of which will remain for a long, long time.
