What is dental caries?

It is a multifactorial infectious disease caused by bacteria present in the oral cavity that act when acids produce demineralization of the enamel, attacking it and destroying it.

Caries is an incurable disease of the tooth that, if not treated in time, can reach the dental pulp (cavity that houses the nerve) causing inflammation (pulpitis) and subsequent necrosis. The treatment of an incipient caries is simpler (and more economical) than when the nerve is already compromised, having to remove it (endodontics).
