What is periodontal disease?

It is a serious condition that progressively deteriorates the tissues that support the tooth, advancing from the most superficial (gum) to the deepest (bone). In the more advanced stages, when the bone destruction is great, it leads to the loss of the tooth. The most common symptom is bleeding gums, but the patient does not appreciate it because it is a painless disease in its initial phase and less prone than caries, so he thinks he has healthy teeth. Nothing could be further from the truth.
